General Information

The ACA Stud Register is the source of all AKC registered Akitas born in the U.S.  The ACA stud register was closed 2/28/74.  On and after 3/1/1974 U.S. born AKC registered Akitas were registered directly with AKC.

The ACA Stud Register that AKC accepted has 3 parts: Litters Registered, Individual Akitas Registered and Import 3 generation pedigrees (4 generations including the get).

The Litter Register litters numbers run from 100 to 785 (a total of 685 litters) but there are only 588 litters listed.  The balance of 97 litters were not continued (gets from them were not ACA registered).

The birth date of the first U.S. born ACA registered litter is 7/2/56 and the last 10/30/72.

Of the 588 litters listed in the Litter Register:
74 litters are from an Import Akitas bred to an Import Akita
121 litters are from an Import Akita bred to a U.S. Born Akita
393 litters are from a U.S. Born Akitas bred to a U.S. Born Akita

The number of different import Akita males in the Litter Register is 76.

The number of different import Akita females is 63.

Totaling 139 Import Akitas listed in the Litter Register.

Most of the Import Akitas are closely related many being either littermates (from repeat breedings) half siblings or cousins.

The individual Akitas listed total about 2,151 (+- 1 or 2).  There are 340 Import Pedigrees listed.  Only 139 of the pedigrees listed are Import Akitas who are listed in the Litter Registry.

The other 201 pedigrees are either of Akitas imported before the registry closed and were not bred, are listed in the litter registry or just useful information as they are an extension of the imports' pedigrees.

Some of the original imports may have been continued thru AKIHO LA registration and not AKC.
